His initiative and skill were evident from the outset, but the results we heard in the editing room confirmed our initial suspicions – namely, that David is a professional well beyond his years. David managed to ace every single take and always came back with a smile. I have no reservations in offering my highest recommendation for David and his colleagues. I only wish that we had more crew members like them here in Los Angeles.”
Talented, full of integrity, and a great attitude, David brings the best of business and matches it with the talents of professional audio. Highly recommend.”

MoCap and Audio
Author: admin, Posted On: December 13th, 2011, In: News
After a great day of recording (in the sound-blanket fort pictured above) I’m officially ready for sleep, but I couldn’t go to bed until I understood what exactly this new technology called Motion Capture or “mocap” is all about. A quick search told me that motion capture technology isn’t all that new, but the methods and means of capturing real-life actor’s motions for use in digital animation has advanced significantly over time. The technology has a wide array of applications including the military, sports, robotics, validation of computer vision, and, as in our case, entertainment. For our work with UCD’s Digital Animation Center, we were recording both facial and full-body motion using a system that employs active markers (small velcro or sticky balls) and an optical system (cameras) to triangulate positions between what was 13 cameras set up in an array that was precisely calibrated prior to the session. We used reflective markers so that meant that the actor couldn’t be wearing anything shiny (an lavalier transmitter packs had to be safely hidden).
I’m pretty satisfied with how well everything turned out. It was a great day of recording and fun to watch the animation technology onscreen.
Here’s an example of how it was done on Avatar, using a special motion capture camera that’s actually mounted to the actor and thus provides the ability to move around while capturing facial expressions.
Arvada West Holiday Concerts

Location sound recording is possibly the best job in the world. To record pristine audio for one of the best vocal and instrumental music programs in the state of Colorado has got to be one of the most rewarding experiences. Not to even talk about how much fun it will be to edit/mix and hear again, just the experience of being front and center with headphones to listen to the combination of voices and instruments in a great acoustic space is an amazing thing. It was incredible and made the three 2 1/2-hour concerts fly by.
I look forward to mixing and mastering these performances. The choir sounded incredible and blended really well, the instructors and kids are all incredibly dedicated. You can see it in their professionalism in rehearsals as well as concerts. I feel privileged to be able to work with such a great group of kids. The men’s Varsity Choir and Orchestra were invited performers at the prestigious Colorado Music Educators Association annual conference in March of this year.
The Prophet’s Son
Author: admin, Posted On: December 7th, 2011, In: News
DSG has joined forces once again with the venerable Chris Bishop (CBSD) to complete post-production audio for The Prophet’s Son–Colorado’s latest feature-length film shot here by a local production company. Production ran through the month of June and the dialogue edit has been completed as of last Sunday, which means the 5.1 mix is all that’s left. You will be able to see it in theaters throughout the states shortly. For the two of us, this has been one of the most challenging projects either of us has worked on and has required countless hours, but it has been well-worth it. You can read about the film here and you can be sure updates will follow as soon as the final 5.1 mix is finished.

In synopsis (taken from the website):
Abel Benjamin is a talented, internationally known, concert musician, and one of the sons of a respected pastor and prophet. Juliet Oscar is a published author who has loved Abel from a distance and is quietly waiting on God to reveal his plan in their lives. She lives with her widowed mother and twin, younger brothers who are trying to establish their separate identities and deal with the loss of their father. The lives of these two families intertwine as they reach inside a high school where one of the twins becomes involved in a gang and loses his life trying to prevent a school shooting. It tells the story of his brother’s anger and subsequent disappearance into the streets and the heartache of the families uniting to search for him. It begins in the year of a hotly contested presidential election and ends during the nation’s process of recovery when the new president’s inexperience opens the door to a nuclear attack. Throughout the film there is the consistent message of love, self sacrifice, hope and unity.

Rocky Flats Legacy Screening at the Library of Congress
Author: admin, Posted On: December 6th, 2011, In: News
My contribution to this as post-production mixer was to edit and mix dialogue and some aspects of sound design and SFX/BG editing. It was a fun project and I knew it had potential from the first time I watched it. The story is powerful and real and one that needs to be told. I personally have ties to this as my dad and many of his friends worked there back in the ’80s at the height of all this.
It was screened before a mixture of congressmen and politicians, NIOSH employees, and others in an event held at the Library of Congress on November 17, 2011. I’m glad to have played a part in helping this message be heard in a professional manner by the public.
